The First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin
The Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
April 26, 2009
8:45 and 10:30 a.m.
NEXT SUNDAY, May 3, 2009 will be the Fourth Sunday of Easter. The Scripture readings will be: Acts 4:5-12 (Pew Bible page 887) Peter proclaims a message about Jesus before the council in Jerusalem. Psalm 23 (pages 435-436); 1 John 3:16-24 (page 990-991) Gods love abides in us; therefore, we should love one another in truth John 10:11-18 (pages 872-873) Jesus is the Good Shepherd, who knows his flock.
PRAYER FOR PEACE THAILAND The New York Times reported that exhausted and outnumbered by government troops, anti-government protestors ended weeks of street demonstrations, offering a respite for Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajive after street battles that left 2 people dead and 123 injured. We expect democracy when we hear about voting and public decision making. However, last years elections in Thailand were a sham and the people of Thailand have been fighting back with huge demonstrations. They want new elections at the very least claiming that their government has been robbed from them. An international summit called by authorities was so disrupted that it had to be cancelled. Finally, the government was able to end the protests, with demonstrators afraid that there would be loss of life. They promise to continue to pressure the government, but for now have withdrawn. Its a big risk for people to stand-up and stand-together in defiance of their leaders. Father in Heaven, please bless the people of Thailand and help the King and elected leaders to listen to one another so that a resolution to the situation can be reached without violence and bloodshed of the people. Amen.

HEIFER INTERNATIONAL April is a time to reflect on gifts received and celebrate gifts to be given. Heifer Internationals program of providing gifts of animals and clean drinking water to villages around the world is our focus today. Heifer was one of the missions in our 2008 Mission Fair. As an exhibitor, they were invited to provide First Church with a bulletin insert for our congregation. The insert today provides an overview of the Heifer program Passing on the Gift. Offspring of Heifer gifts of animals are passed on to other villagers so that the whole community is strengthened and enriched by the project over time. For more information about Heifer International, go to www.heifer.org.
