Victoria ByRoade THE RESPONSE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE OF GOD *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Confession of 1967 (adapted) God's sovereign love is a mystery beyond the reach of our minds. Human thought ascribes to God superlatives of power, wisdom, and goodness. But God reveals his love in Jesus Christ by showing power in the form of a servant, wisdom in the folly of the cross, and goodness in receiving human beings. The power of God's love in Christ to transform the world discloses that the Redeemer is the Lord and Creator who made all things to serve the purpose of his love. Amen. Romans 8:22-27 (page 919) The Spirit helps us as we groan with all creation awaiting redemption. John 15:26-27; 16:4-15 (pages 878-879) Jesus speaks of the coming of the Spirit as an advocate to the church. PRAYER FOR PEACE - MEMORIAL DAY is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (tomorrow). Formerly known as "Decoration Day", it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in military service to their country. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War ( it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the civil war), it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action. Father in Heaven, please bless our military men and women, in all branches and services. Give them patience and strength as they defend our civil liberties and protect our country from harm. Bless military families who have suffered losses and sorrows. Help us all to be respectful of the horrors of war and to never lightly enter into combat. Hold us all in your loving hands. Amen.
