PRAYER FOR THE DAY: Lord Jesus, we are those who have heard you say, "Follow me." And we have responded. We have come to you as we are, to become who you would have us be, strong and faithful followers of the way. Challenge and correct us; make us and hold us as individual followers and as your church, that we may fulfill our potential and your intention. May our discipleship point clearly to you, the one we follow in love. Amen. PRAYER FOR PEACE - THE RIGHT TO FOOD During the Mission Fair last week, we had several exhibits describing what we can do to provide food to poor people.Ê Those missions included SHARE, RCS, HEP, the Society of St. Andrews, and the Beth-El Farmworker Ministry. Many in our congregation work every day to assist others in getting enough food for their families. ÊThe first week of October was in fact named by the Presbyterian Church (USA) as a "week of action" on the right to food when food prices are pushing millions of people into poverty.Ê There is a strong relationship between trade, agriculture, food and human rights.Ê It's a focus of the meetings that were held in Turkey and that we all saw on television where people threatened the representatives of the World Bank and the IMF to find solutions to the global economic crisis that has caused the prices of food to rise so high that families are going bankrupt and children are dying.Ê The short phrase for all these tensions is "trade justice" but there are many, many ways to say that people should be able to purchase food at a fair price.Ê Trade justice touches us all, both here and abroad.Ê Father in Heaven, bless the leaders of agro-industry and banking who are working so hard to find ways to get food at affordable prices to the various markets around the world.Ê Help families locate food sources that will sustain them and their children.Ê Bless the missions of the world who are trying to bridge the gap to protect the families who have no resources to purchase food.Ê Help them survive this crisis.Ê In your precious name we pray, Amen.
